Background: Access to effective infection prevention and control (IPC) resources for schools is critical for safeguarding student and staff health. However, resources may not adequately address the diverse needs of individual schools. This study explores the crucial role of a needs assessment in tailoring the MO KIDS IPC Toolkit.
Methods: The needs assessment included listening sessions and interviews with school staff as well as a review of secondary data.
Results: The necessity for tailored resources, acknowledging schools are not uniform, emerged as a key theme. Participants noted that all staff should be trained in IPC protocols. Schools desired self-paced online resources that cater to diverse learning styles, covering various infectious diseases, in formats such as videos, checklists, and customizable templates.
Conclusions: Tailoring resources to the needs and cultural nuances of each school community can enhance implementation of IPC practices and improve overall health outcomes for students and staff.
