140: Collecting Reliable, Actionable, and Quality Youth Data in Complex Out of School Time Settings
Wednesday, November 12, 2025
5:30 PM - 7:00 PM CST
Program evaluation methodological decisions are often driven by the need to balance ideal measurement with the reality of the settings in which evaluations occur. To manage this complexity and collect high-quality data in OST settings, evaluators must deploy research methods that capture the lived experiences of youth - methods that are developmentally and contextually appropriate, and which engage youth in the evaluation process. Come visit our poster to chat about collecting high-quality, ecologically valid data from and with youth in OST settings. We will highlight relevant AEA Evaluator Core Competencies, including collecting data using credible, feasible, and developmentally appropriate procedures, and responding respectfully to the uniqueness of the evaluation context. Visitors will leave with ideas for designing surveys that honor youth voices in OST programs; suggestions for feasibly collecting data in complex OST spaces; and practical strategies to actively engage youth in the evaluation process.
