The Illinois Health Evaluation Collaboration (IHEC) utilizes a structure known as “mini teams” to promote collaborative decision-making and shared leadership. One mini team is created per evaluation, with members assigned to specific roles to enable leadership, share knowledge, showcase individual strengths, encourage collaboration, and participate in collective accountability. The structure allows not only experienced evaluators to lead, but also enables newer evaluators, students, and trainees to assume leadership roles within their assigned teams. This exemplifies delegative leadership by empowering team members to take initiative and responsibility. In this poster, the authors explore the benefits and challenges of mini-teams and offer practical steps for their implementation. Additionally, the poster explores the evolution of IHEC’s Asthma Mobile Vans mini team from the perspective of each of the three authors, who have diverse experiences and backgrounds but have taken turns leading the Mobile Vans mini team at different stages of the project.
