This poster will illustrate how the Women’s Health Nurses and Midwives Collaborate for Alcohol-Free Pregnancy Project (WHNMCAP) utilized shared leadership to build the capacity of nursing professionals to address a leading cause of developmental disabilities. This CDC-funded partnership between the Center for Behavioral Health Research and Services at the University of Alaska Anchorage, the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health, and the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses relies on shared leadership to “grow, learn, and innovate to improve outcomes” by supporting nurses and midwives in providing evidence-based guidance to patients and communities to reduce the likelihood of alcohol-exposed pregnancy (2025 Conference Theme, https://www.eval.org/evaluation2025#THEME). We will describe how the WHNMCAP collaborative developed and evaluated policy, practice, and educational strategies to integrate the latest research, practice guidelines, and skills into national nursing organizations’ policy statements, professional certification modules, nursing curricula, continuing education opportunities, and professional journal publications.
