Qualitative data often produce a large amount of dataset, making it challenging to analyze. While several computer-assisted data analysis software is available, Microsoft Word and Excel are proposed because they are relatively easy to access, and more cost-effective. The poster will inform and inspire evaluators about the possibilities that lie in adopting simple yet powerful tools for qualitative data analysis. We will offer an alternative approach toward a more participatory evaluation process for effective engagement. We will present the process of coding qualitative data using Microsoft Word and Excel. These tools could be used collaboratively by evaluators and non-evaluators alike with limited Microsoft Word and Excel experience. We will illustrate how evaluators can utilize these tools to analyze qualitative data. Specifically, (1) to elucidate the transfer of text from Word to Excel, (2) prepare the Excel document for coding, and (3) analyze the data and present results.
