You, Me, and ChatGPT: Best Practices for Teaching Artificial Intelligence (AI) Literacy in the Evaluation Classroom.
Thursday, November 13, 2025
5:50 PM - 5:55 PM CST
As the fall 2023 episode of New Directions in Evaluation, focused on “Evaluation and Artificial Intelligence,” and crowded sessions at the 2024 AEA Conference demonstrated, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in evaluation is a hot topic among evaluators today. While there is not yet consensus about whether, when, and how AI tools can or should be used in our work, the conversation is lively. As evaluation as a field grapples with these questions, teachers of evaluation (and many other subjects!) need to develop strategies to discuss AI tools and build AI literacy with our students, who are potential future evaluators, commissioners, and users of evaluation. In this IGNITE, the presenter will describe best practices for teaching AI literacy. The goal of this presentation is to provide other evaluation instructors with concrete, easily-deployed strategies for teaching AI Literacy.
