Participatory Evaluation: Participants Engagement in the Evaluation Process
From Voices to Visuals: Using Ripple Effect Mapping with Youth and Adult Programs
Thursday, November 13, 2025
4:00 PM - 4:15 PM CST
Ripple Effect Mapping (REM) is a participatory evaluation technique designed to elicit stories of change and capture complex program impacts, both intended and unintended, through collaborative dialogue and visualization. This skill-building session offers evaluators practical training in using REM with both youth and adult populations. Drawing on applied evaluation experience with 4-H CYFAR and a USDA energy efficiency initiative, the facilitator will guide participants through the REM process, from preparing the learning space and incorporating appreciative inquiry to adapting facilitation for developmental differences. Through hands-on exercises, attendees will explore best practices for engaging participants across age groups and will leave with a practical playbook and adaptable template for initiating REM in their own programs.
