Following the Money: A Decade of Foundation Evaluation Funding (2013-2022)

The supply and demand of evaluation is a dimension of our field that is rarely examined at conferences or in evaluation literature. In this session, we will share a new analysis of evaluation funding in the foundation sector, examining financial patterns that remain largely undiscussed yet shape our field. Drawing on IRS data cataloged by Candid/The Foundation Center records spanning 2013-2023, we'll reveal how evaluation funding has changed over time—including evidence of concerning declines—and what this means for the future of evaluation practice.
