Equity-focused evaluation approach is an essential part of the transformative branch of the evaluation discipline, that helps to foster inclusive change, challenge systemic power imbalances, and amplify the voices of marginalized stakeholders. However, due to the inadequacy of empirical research conducted to provide evidence of its application in practice, it becomes difficult to ascertain the gaps between real-world practice and the theoretical framework –impeding learning. The birds of a feather discussion will provide key background insights on equity-focused evaluation and invite participants to share their experience conducting such evaluations. The discussion will explore the complexities of translating equity principles into practice, addressing common tensions, barriers, and strategies for meaningful implementation. We will examine questions such as: What compromises arise in balancing rigor with responsiveness? Through this collaborative dialogue, we will co-create strategies for bridging theory and practice, ultimately advancing more ethical, community-centered, and action-oriented evaluation approaches.
