Philanthropy can protect community knowledge ecosystems and enable pathways for their equitable integration and representation in institutional data systems with the goal to prioritize community needs, knowledge, and expertise to inform actionable policies for health equity and wellbeing. RWJF is participating in a bundled evaluation of its new strategy about creating actionable and equitable information system. First, this session will share insights, from a funder’s perspective, on how community knowledge, data and stories can make a lasting impact (AEA) on system change. Second, this session will invite the audience to offer ideas (1) for how data ownership and shared leadership can be a means to empowerment for those at risk of surveillance and harm, and (2) about what needs to change in the knowledge system to enable community data ownership and community-driven decision making.
