20: Developing a Standardized Framework to Strengthen Technical Assistance Efforts

Technical Assistance (TA) is a critical tool for building capacity and improving outcomes across sectors like public health, education, and social services. However, despite its widespread use, there is no standardized framework for planning, implementing, and evaluating TA (Katz & Wandersman, 2016; Scott, Chagnon & Wandersman, 2024), and limited literature exists on its empirical evaluation (West et al., 2012; Wandersman & Scheier, 2024). During this Birds of a Feather gathering, the facilitators will briefly share an overview of the types of TA being done by their organization and their efforts towards building a standardized framework to improve the effectiveness of TA provision and future evaluation efforts. This will be followed by a discussion where participants will have a platform to share their experience with TA and practice around TA planning, implementation and evaluation.
