Sharing Leadership Through Publishing: Unpacking the Hidden Curriculum of Evaluation Publishing
Thursday, November 13, 2025
10:15 AM - 11:15 AM CST
Teaching evaluation extends beyond theories, methods, and tools. Academic publishing, an important part of knowledge construction, is rarely taught explicitly. For many students and early-career evaluators, the hidden curriculum limits how they contribute to journals. This think tank invites dialogue with Junior Editors (JEs) of New Directions for Evaluation, who are graduate students and early-career evaluators. JEs will reflect on teaching, learning, and leading through publishing. They’ll share lessons learned, skills gained, and efforts to demystify the publishing process. It will then move into a discussion with participants about the hidden curriculum of publishing, gaps in formal training, and challenges around inclusion and access, showing how publishing can foster shared leadership and professional growth. Attendees will gain practical insights into how evaluation publishing works, ways to get involved, and how to build more inclusive, welcoming journals for underrepresented voices in print.
