Engaging with Communities and Primary Care Practices: Evaluating CTR Practice-Based Research Network (PBRN) models
Thursday, November 13, 2025
2:30 PM - 3:30 PM CST
The Clinical and Translational Research (CTR) program is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to support the development of CTR infrastructure and capacity. One of the newer initiatives specific to CTR programs is the requirement to develop and implement a Practice-Based Research Network (PBRN). In the context of the CTRs, PBRN partners (community members, primary care clinicians, and researchers) are uniquely positioned to create a collaborative scientific culture that focuses on community health priorities with the intention that there is shared leadership and decision-making in identifying, implementing, and disseminating findings from research projects. Given the complexity of PBRNs and associated strategies, CTR evaluators are challenged to design formative and summative assessments to support evidence-based program improvements and measure outcomes. This session will highlight evaluative objectives, frameworks, methods, and measurements used by translational research CTR evaluators as their local CTR moves forward with envisioning, developing, and implementing a PBRN.
