University-based programs represent one of several viable pathways for individuals and groups to learn about the field of evaluation. Historically they have led to graduate degrees or professional certificates and are often positioned as a formal venue for learning about both the technical practice and philosophy of evaluation. However, university-based programs change over time in response to administrative priorities, student demand, and larger social-political movements, making it important to track their development, implementation, and sunsetting over time, as well as better understand the ways in which programs can represent and engage the communities they serve. This panel will bring together a group of scholars and evaluation educators across the globe who have conducted recent empirical research on evaluator education and those who have developed innovative “first-in-the-world” educational programs.
