Bridging the Evidence to Practice Gap: Engaging Practitioners in Participatory Evidence Reviews and Practice Guides
Thursday, November 13, 2025
5:00 PM - 6:00 PM CST
Systematic evidence reviews—which synthesize findings from experimental and quasi-experimental studies—play a central role in establishing evidence-based practices. However, many systematic evidence reviews fail to engage practitioners in the review process. As a result, findings from systematic evidence reviews may not always be relevant for practitioners or provide the type of information needed to support their implementation of evidence-based practices. The purpose of this session is to share strategies and lessons learned for engaging practitioners in implementing participatory evidence reviews and co-developing evidence-based practice guides. Anchored in a recent practice guide on teacher-delivered behavioral interventions in grades K-5, this panel describes the development process for participatory evidence reviews and practice guides, awarding particular attention to the important role of practitioners in developing the guides. In closing, the panel reflects on how to advance participatory evidence reviews and practice guides to further bridge the gap between evidence and practice. Click to fill survey.
