Rights-Based Approaches to Evaluation: Using Practice to Build Theory
Wednesday, November 12, 2025
4:20 PM - 5:20 PM CST
In this session we will discuss defining qualities of rights-based approaches to evaluation and how such approaches are applicable across a variety of evaluation contexts. Rights-based approaches to evaluation recognize that individuals, organizations, and communities already have natural rights that they deserve, and a central task in the evaluation process is explicating and promoting these rights (e.g., basic needs met, safety, agency, deserving respect). We will root our discussion in existing evaluation theories and examples of rights-based evaluations. We also seek to identify examples of rights-based evaluation as well as strategies not published in formal outlets. Click to fill survey.
