Applying Participatory Evaluation Principles to Real-World Design, Implementation, and Dissemination: Examples from the Evaluation of the Richmond Fund for Children and Youth
Friday, November 14, 2025
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM CST
This demonstration showcases WestEd’s participatory evaluation planning, implementation, and dissemination within the evaluation of the Richmond Fund for Children and Youth (RFCY), a grant program designed to fund youth programs and services for residents of Richmond, CA. WestEd underwent a 10-month participatory planning process, engaging City partners, a community oversight board, grantee organizations, and youth through interactive activities. During evaluation implementation and dissemination, WestEd convened a group of over a dozen youth co-evaluators to co-interpret data and guide the development of strategic communication to City councilmembers. This demonstration will showcase our approach to participatory evaluation by sharing examples of activities used throughout the evaluation, including the around-the-world activity that youth and oversight board members engaged in to co-develop a youth survey; a data walk to co-interpret program reach and coverage data; and consensus-building activities for evaluation disseminations.
