Shaping the Future of New Directions for Evaluation: Inviting the New Voices

New Directions for Evaluation (NDE) is a flagship journal for the American Evaluation Association. Each issue is a “special issue” focused on innovative approaches to evaluation, emerging methodologies, and new evaluation applications. NDE issues are led by guest editors who propose and manage issue creation. As with many journals, there are structural barriers to publishing in NDE. While evaluation is a practice-driven field, authors and guest editors are frequently academics, housed at mainstream institutions that incentivize publications. Structural barriers discourage others from engaging in the publishing process. In 2025, NDE launched the pilot Inviting New Voices into Evaluation (INVitE-Pub) initiative, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. In this workshop, we provide guidance and tools for evaluators who want to publish in NDE, but do not yet know how. We will also share support options available to new guest editors and authors through the INVitE-Pub initiative. Click to fill survey.
